As the 2026 College Football Playoff National Championship approaches, fans of the Miami Hurricanes and the Indiana Hoosiers will face stricter tailgating and ticket-check measures than usual when they descend on Hard Rock Stadium. According to details released in a recent report by WSVN, the College Football Playoff is putting security front and center, with a special focus on ticket verification that will limit the tailgating experience strictly to those with tickets to the game.
With the Hurricanes playing on their home field, anticipation is high among local fans. Unfortunately for some, especially those without tickets, the experience won’t be as communal as one might hope. Tailgating will be allowed only for ticketed guests, and those found without a ticket after kickoff will be ushered out by local law enforcement officers. Parking has already sold out, prompting event organizers to push rideshare options and offsite parking with shuttle services. Compounding matters, resale ticket prices have climbed steeply, with WFLX reporting starting figures around "$3,000."
Security measures not only restrict who can tailgate but also control movement around the stadium. Fans moving from outer yellow lots to inner orange lots will have their tickets checked—ensuring only ticketholders can migrate between these zones during pregame activities. "Ticketholders should expect to see an extended security perimeter with layers of ticket checkpoints as they approach the stadium on foot," stated the College Football Playoff in an announcement obtaining by WFLX.
Despite these rigorous policies, the passion of local fans remains undiminished. Corrinne Ku, who calls herself a lifelong Hurricanes fan, shared with WFLX her determination to support her team, even if that means altering her game day plans. "It's just so much fun to be with other Canes fans. And we just know how to bring a party," she said. Yet, with parking passes on resale sites, starting at almost "$200," she decided watching from home might be the smarter play. “The last three games in the playoffs I've been home with this (baseball) jersey on, so I don't want to jinx it,” Ku told WFLX.
The College Football Playoff's call for early arrival to accommodate the additional screenings further complicates things for fans who traditionally revel in the tailgating culture inherent to college football. Fans taking advantage of the free shuttle service offered by HRS Express will also need to scan their game ticket before boarding buses from Lot 70 (North) and Lot 95 (South), as reminded by the CFP.
