The Henderson Police Department is currently investigating an officer-involved shooting resulting from a confrontation with a suspect accused of stealing a construction front loader, as reported by News 3 LV. The incident, which is the first officer-involved shooting in Henderson for the year 2026, took place in the 600 block of N Water Street near Boulder Highway after officers were dispatched at around 9:10 a.m.
Upon their arrival, officers encountered the suspect who was in the process of absconding with the vehicle, during which the assailant attempted to run over the officers multiple times then he rammed two police patrol cars. This act of aggression prompted the officers to discharge their weapons, striking the suspect in the arm and leg. 8 News Now detailed the series of events.
The suspect’s medical condition is undisclosed, and they were hospitalized after the gunfire exchange. Two officers also sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received care, according to Captain Haven Tillmon of the Henderson Police Department, reported by News 3 LV.
New residents Ed-Efe and Debi Okogba expressed surprise over the violent altercation in their usually quiet neighborhood. “It’s really quiet here… we don’t see the police unless we leave the neighborhood,” they told FOX 5 Vegas. Henderson Police said they will release body-worn camera footage later this week, which may clarify the circumstances of the shooting.
