Firefighting in Hernando County has received a significant boost with a specialized training session led by a seasoned veteran of the New York City Fire Department. Mike Ciampo, a retired ladder lieutenant, brought his expertise to the Sunshine State, delivering the "Truck tactics beyond the text book" course to local firefighters on Friday, according to a Hernando County Fire Rescue social media post.
The training aimed to provide HCFR firefighters with advanced operational skills not typically found in standard manuals. Participants delved into "street smart ladder ops" utilizing portable, aerial, and tower ladders, in addition to forcible entry tactics and various other truck company operations. This initiative was organized to better equip truck and quint personnel, enabling them to more effectively handle diverse scenarios they might encounter. In a statement posted online by Hernando County Fire Rescue, firefighters expressed gratitude to Lt Ciampo for his willingness to travel and share his wealth of knowledge and experience with the new wave of 'truckies.'
