A jewelry store employee has been detained for the alleged theft of $30,000 worth of goods from his workplace in Hialeah, as police officers reported. The individual, identified as Eduardo Gongora, 35, faces a grand theft charge following his arrest on Wednesday, according to NBC Miami.

Gongora's employer, owner of Yene Joyeria located at 3715 W. 16th Ave., triggered the investigation after receiving an anonymous tip. The owner's inventory check revealed missing jewelry and it appeared Gongora, who was responsible for the end-of-day inventory documentation, could not account for the missing pieces. During questioning, Gongora allegedly admitted to the thefts, confessing that he "done it numerous times before and would sell the items to another jeweler," as disclosed in a statement obtained by NBC Miami.

Local authorities conducted a search of Gongora's home where they discovered additional stolen merchandise, bringing the total estimated value of recovered items to about $30,000. Local 10 News reported that some of the merchandise was found in Gongora's bag the day of his arrest, estimated to be worth around $10,000.

Currently, Gongora is being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, and the details of his bond, were described as "to be set," as mentioned on Local 10 News. Miami-Dade jail records confirm the arrest and ongoing legal proceedings. The anonymous employee who initially tipped off the store's owner has not been publicly identified.
