Heads up, Hickory residents and commuters: a stretch of 10th Street SE is set to be closed off starting today due to necessary infrastructure work. The City of Hickory announced that the road will be shut down from the intersection with C Avenue SE to the intersection with Main Avenue SE for a sewer main replacement project. The closure will be enforced from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, aiming to minimize the impact during non-peak hours. Motorists are advised to plan accordingly and follow the detour routes that will be clearly marked.
The work is not just a mundane alteration to the well-trodden paths of our day-to-day but a critical upgrade to the city's aging sewer system. According to a statement from the City of Hickory, the project is scheduled to wrap up by Friday, February 13, weather permitting. With the hopes riding on favorable conditions, crews will work diligently to return the street to its standard bustle and flow. The city urges the public to "slow down and exercise caution when traveling through this area so crews can return home safely each night."
