Houston police are investigating a fatal shooting after officers responding to a person-down call found someone with a gunshot wound inside a building at 2824 Hillcroft Avenue on Friday morning. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the person dead at the scene.
What officials said
HPD Homicide Division Detectives J. Caten and K. Stringer said patrol officers located the victim inside the building and that the case is being handled as an active homicide investigation, according to the City of Houston newsroom. The release added that "there is no known suspect or motive at this time."
Investigation status and how to help
The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences has not yet released the identity of the person found at the scene, authorities said in the HPD media release. That release, which lists the incident number as 000530326, urges anyone with information to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS, according to the HPD media release.
Hillcroft corridor context
The shooting comes amid a string of recent public-safety concerns along Hillcroft, where police and residents have reported several violent incidents and an abandoned bank where a body was found earlier this week. Local coverage of those neighborhood issues is available via reporting on the body found in a squatter-haunted Hillcroft bank and past reporting by ABC13.
What happens next
HPD homicide detectives J. Caten and K. Stringer continue to process the scene and follow leads as the investigation proceeds, and they ask anyone with surveillance footage or information to come forward, according to the City of Houston newsroom. Authorities again reminded the public to call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS with tips.
