Williams, showing signs of impairment, was charged with multiple offenses, including Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage and DUI with Property Damage or Personal Injury. In Florida, it is mandatory under the Move Over Law for drivers to slow down and move over for stopped emergency vehicles with activated lights. This law was highlighted by the HCSO in their statement, emphasizing the potential to save a life simply by making one conscientious decision behind the wheel.
The Sheriff's Office post further noted that Williams faced a charge for Refusal to Submit to Testing. The Move Over Law in Florida is designed to protect law enforcement and emergency service personnel when they are vulnerable on the road during traffic stops and other on-duty activities. They urge drivers to always be aware of their surroundings, especially when approaching a situation where emergency vehicles are present.
