Officers from the Holyoke Police Department made a significant seizure last Friday morning, recovering narcotics and a prohibited weapon during a routine traffic stop. The incident unfolded when Officer Nathan Cote spotted an unregistered vehicle with a revoked insurance and attached license plates, according to a social media post from the police department.
While patrolling Cabot Street and Main Street at approximately 2:00 a.m., an unregistered vehicle caught Officer Cote’s attention, who conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Cabot Street and Bigelow Street. With the arrival of Officers Samuel Rodriguez, Samantha Cayer, and Sergeant Matthew Goulding to assist, the driver, 56-year-old Michael Jenks of Agawam, was detained after not following any of the officer’s commands, casting a suspicious presence in the dead of night.
During the officers' investigation, suspected crack-cocaine became visible in Jin Jenks's vehicle, prompting further search. "During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered brass knuckles and additional crack-cocaine," Holyoke Police Chief Brian Keenan disclosed in the same announcement. As a result of the findings, Jenks was placed under arrest, and his vehicle was towed from the scene. There was also an adult female passenger present during the incident, who was subsequently released without charges.
Jenks now faces several charges, including possession of a Class B drug and carrying a dangerous weapon. Charged with a number plate violation to conceal ID, uninsured and unregistered motor vehicle were also among the listed offenses for Jenks.
