As communities nationwide remember an icon of justice and equality, Homestead invites residents to do their part in upholding the dream. Homestead will host its annual MLK Community Breakfast on January 16, with attendees expected to gather from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Phichol Williams Community Center. The venue at 951 SW 4th Street sets a stage for reflection, conversation, and a shared commitment to mentorship inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Under this year's theme, “Mentoring the Dream – In the Deep South,” the importance of leadership development and empowerment of youth will be highlighted. While keeping alive Dr. King’s teachings, the breakfast is an integral part of Homestead’s cultural calendar, engaging local students, educators and business figures in a wider discourse on equality and community support, as per the city's announcement.
Conveying the collective message of the event, Vice Mayor Jenifer Bailey expressed the core values, revealed in her sponsorship of the event, “Dr. King taught us the power of mentorship, community, and service.” She further added, “As we gather this year under the theme ‘Mentoring the Dream,’ we honor his legacy by investing in each other, uplifting young leaders, and continuing the work of justice and opportunity for all”, as quoted by the City of Homestead's official announcement.
In acknowledgement of the partners and sponsors, The City of Homestead remains grateful; gratitude, with deep connections to community solidarity and enrichment, is extended to The Palace Gardens, BrightView Landscaping, Southwest Advisory Committee, Community Relations Board, Gamebred Youth, and Chick-Fil-A Florida City for their patronage.
The invocation of Dr. King's spirit is set to resonate among the Homestead–Florida City residents, as all are welcomed to the breakfast. With no cost of entry, but a necessary RSVP, the public is encouraged to register at Homestead's city website to become part of a tradition that thrives on inclusivity and empowerment.
