The City of Homestead is partnering with the University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center to provide free cancer screenings on February 2. The event will take place at Homestead's Police Athletic League (PAL), located at 600 SW 14th Avenue, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., offering residents access to health services at no cost.
According to the city’s announcement, the Sylvester Game Changer mobile health unit will provide the services, bringing cancer screenings directly to neighborhoods where access to medical care may be limited. The event will also offer assessments for body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose levels. Participants should fast prior to cholesterol and glucose screenings to ensure accurate results.
The event will also include information on the importance of early cancer detection and prevention. All services are provided free of charge, and screenings will be conducted by licensed healthcare professionals.
Screenings will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis and will continue while supplies last, so residents are encouraged to arrive early. For more information, the Sylvester Game Changer Program can be reached at 305-243-1120 or through their website, which offers details on the services provided and the program’s community initiatives.
