The City of Homestead is launching a new initiative to provide swimming lessons for local children. Beginning February 9, 2026, the Homestead Swimming Lessons Program will be available to youth, offering instruction in water safety and swimming techniques. The program is designed for children and teenagers and aims to teach essential life skills in a city surrounded by waterways.

The program is funded through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The grant supports services that benefit low- to moderate-income families. The swimming courses will run for two weeks, Monday through Thursday, and participants are expected to attend all sessions in sequence.

The City of Homestead reports that the program will offer different classes for various age groups: one for young children accompanied by a guardian, and another for children and teens ages six through seventeen who are ready for deeper water. Certified instructors will lead all sessions, ensuring that the program meets established safety and instructional standards.

The program is open exclusively to City of Homestead residents who meet certain income requirements, which must be verified with appropriate documentation. Registration is currently underway, and space is limited. All swim sessions will take place at Roby George Park Pool, located at 275 SW 11th Avenue in Homestead, FL. For registration or additional information, residents can call 786-575-3619 or 954-607-0115, or visit the City of Homestead’s official swim program webpage.
