A Honduran citizen has been indicted for assaulting federal immigration agents in a December incident that unfolded in the Eastern District of Texas, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Jay R. Combs. Jerson Lopez-Sanchez, 28, faces charges after he allegedly rammed a vehicle into law enforcement during an attempted traffic stop, causing injury to the agents.
The U.S. Attorney's Office reports that on December 1, 2025, when federal agents signaled for Lopez-Sanchez to pull over, the situation quickly escalated as he reversed his vehicle into the agents' car, a maneuver that enabled him to initially evade capture and subsequently lead authorities on a chase through Lewisville, due to this act, it created enough space for him to navigate around the other law enforcement vehicles. Lopez-Sanchez is currently at large and is indicted on three counts of assaulting federal officers, carrying a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison for each count if convicted.
Federal agents, identified by their marked vests and badges, were pursuing Lopez-Sanchez, who was declared unlawfully present in the U.S. In the course of the incident, the suspect and at least four other occupants attempted to flee after a pursuit that lasted approximately ten minutes. Civilians assisted in detaining three of the occupants after foot chases, yet Lopez-Sanchez managed to escape, a reminder of the stakes in the ongoing discourse around immigration enforcement and public safety.
The chase ended when Lopez-Sanchez's vehicle came to a stop on a median, after which he and others fled.
