
The Office of Hawaiian Affairs and ʻAhahui ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi will hold Lā Kūkahekahe on February 14 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Nā Lama Kūkui in Honolulu. The event, part of Hawaiian Language Month, will include competitions, music, games, and Hawaiian food, according to the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
Students and community members of all ages, including middle and high school, college students, and adults, can participate, as reported by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs. Competition categories include Haʻi ʻŌlelo Hoʻopaʻanaʻau (Memorized Speech) and Paio Kālai Manaʻo (Debate).
Competitors must register by February 6 as spots are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Awards will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each division, including Haʻi ʻŌlelo Uluwale (Improvised Speech) and Haku Mele (Music Composition). The event will also be open for attendees to observe Hawaiian language and cultural activities, as stated by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
