Authorities in Houston are investigating a fatal collision on the 700 block of the Eastex Freeway Thursday morning. The crash resulted in the death of a 23-year-old woman, whose identity has not yet been released pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, according to City of Houston.
According to HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer L. Ho, the accident began when a white Honda Accord rear-ended a gray Nissan Kicks on the partially closed freeway. The Nissan’s driver had stepped out onto the freeway side when a maroon Ford F-150 struck the Honda, pushing it into a retaining wall, which in turn struck the woman standing nearby. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene, according to the official statement.
The driver of the Ford F-150 was not injured, while the occupants of the Honda and one passenger from the Ford were taken to local hospitals with injuries described as non-life-threatening, according to the incident report detailing the chain-reaction crash.
