Houston is expected to experience cold weather this weekend, with temperatures dropping into the low 20s on Sunday morning. KHOU has issued a Weather Impact Alert for the area due to an incoming surge of Arctic air.
Houston is facing a harsh cold snap, with Friday remaining mostly cloudy and North winds of 15–20 mph making morning lows in the 30s feel like the teens. On Saturday, highs will struggle to reach the 40s, and on Sunday morning, a hard freeze from midnight to 9 a.m. will threaten crops, pets, and people exposed to the elements.
Residents are advised to bring pets indoors, cover sensitive plants, and protect insulated pipes, while vehicle owners should check tires and batteries to avoid cold-related issues. A brief warm-up is expected Monday with a high near 65 degrees, followed by a 60% chance of precipitation and possible thunderstorms Tuesday night, and a 30% chance of showers Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
