An early Saturday morning in Houston’s Midtown, a woman who went to check on a disturbance involving a family member was carjacked near Travis and Dennis streets, when a male suspect pushed her aside and drove off in her Ford Edge while her 12-year-old son escaped unharmed from the passenger side. The Houston Police Department said the incident began at that location before quickly escalating into a series of dangerous events, according to KHOU.
As the suspect sped away down Travis Street, he collided with a Kia Soul and a Toyota pickup truck, killing the Kia’s driver and sustaining minor injuries himself. The Toyota driver was taken to a hospital as a precaution, while the carjacked woman stayed at the scene to assist police as the investigation continues.
Houston Police Sgt. Thomas Fendia said a police chase of a stolen vehicle ended in a multi-vehicle crash on Travis Street as the suspect was driving toward downtown, and HPD’s accident reconstruction team responded to investigate. Police said the suspect was injured in the crash but is expected to survive, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office has accepted murder charges in the case. Fendia said, “the suspect hit the mother with her Ford while trying to get away, but her son was not hurt,” and added that the mother plans to seek medical treatment later, as reported by ABC13.
