A 55-year-old woman, Rachel Renee Robinson, was found unresponsive in her cell at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center yesterday afternoon, a statement by the Bibb County Sheriff's Office (BSO) confirmed. Deputies discovered Robinson at around 2:08 p.m., after which medical personnel administered immediate lifesaving efforts until she was transported to Atrium Health Navicent, according to information provided by FOX 5 Atlanta. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead before 6 p.m.
The inmate had been jailed since her arrest on November 22, 2025, on a charge of battery against a law enforcement officer. The BSO stated that her next of kin has been notified, as confirmed by Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones. The nature of Robinson's death—an in-custody situation—necessitates an autopsy, which will be conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), a procedure in line with protocol for such incidents, as reported by WGXA.
As the investigation progresses, certain parts of the procedure are to be conducted internally. The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Office of Professional Standards, more specifically its Internal Affairs investigators, is reviewing the incident as well.
While the official statement extends sympathy toward Robinson's family, the circumstance of her passing within the cold confines of a jail cell is under scrutiny. "The sheriff’s office said it extends its sympathies to Robinson’s family and others affected by her death," as was expressed in a sentiment obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta.
