Mark Romano, Director of Patrol and Enforcement, was recently inducted into the University of North Florida's Hall of Fame. The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office shared the announcement, which was made during a pre-holiday staff meeting attended by Romano’s family and UNF Athletic Director Nick Morrow, according to a social media post. A video accompanying the post showed Romano’s surprised reaction to the honor.

Before beginning his law enforcement career in January 1997, Romano was a standout soccer player at the University of North Florida. He was a founding member and team captain of the UNF Men’s Soccer team from 1993 to 1995, finishing as the program’s second-highest scorer with 34 career goals.

His connection to the sport continues through his son, who currently plays on the UNF soccer team.
