The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help following a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on January 10. A 72-year-old Black man was struck by a vehicle near Vernon Road and later died from his injuries. Investigators say the driver fled the scene, and the incident was captured on surveillance video.
In an appeal to the public, disseminated through the byways of social media, officials have shed light on the vehicle of interest. "Take a look at the surveillance footage captured near the scene," requested the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in a recent Facebook post. The cryptic shapes and shades caught on camera are projected with the hope that someone, anyone, might recognize the vehicle and come forward with information necessary to advance the hunt for answers and accountability.
Concerned citizens with any details about the vehicle, its driver, or specifics of the crash itself are encouraged to step into the light. Information can be shared directly with authorities by calling 904.630.0500, or, for those opting for anonymity, there’s an option to reach out to First Coast Crime Stoppers by dialing 1.866.845.TIPS.
