The City of Janesville has declared a winter weather emergency requiring all vehicles to be removed from city streets beginning at 9 p.m. yesterday. The emergency parking restriction will remain in effect until 8 a.m. tomorrow, according to the City of Janesville.
The declaration temporarily suspends all curbside parking to allow crews to plow streets and manage ice and snow. City officials estimate snowfall totals between 3 and 5 inches from late Tuesday through Wednesday morning. While crews will focus on main roads and arterial streets, officials note that roads may remain snow-covered during periods of heavy snowfall.
To accommodate displaced vehicles, residents may park in designated municipal lots, including the East Wall Street Lot, City Hall Lot, South High Street Lot, Hedberg Public Library Lot, River and Union Street Lot, and the North Parker Drive Parking Ramp. The City of Janesville advises motorists to remove vehicles from these lots after the emergency so crews can clear snow and ice.
Vehicles parked on city streets during the emergency may be cited and fined $50. The Janesville Police Department may issue citations prior to the start of snow and ice control operations. Residents are encouraged to limit travel unless necessary and to monitor city updates for additional information.
