Community members are invited to attend a discussion on lead safety and the preservation of historic homes at the Athens-Clarke County Library this month, where the event will take place over coffee. The Athens-Clarke County Government Housing & Community Development, in a partnership with HUD's Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes, is putting on a January Coffee Together session as part of its Lead-Safe & Healthy Homes Learning Series.

On Thursday, January 29, from 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM, join the conversation, which will prominently feature Taneisha Brooks from Historic Athens. Brooks is set to deliver a presentation titled "Preservation Impact: Preserving the Past and Building the Future." According to a news release from Athens-Clarke County Government, the talk will center on the protection of older homes, aim to prevent displacement resulting from home deterioration, and will advocate for supporting stable, affordable housing in the Athens community.

The event is slated to take place in Multipurpose Room A of the Athens-Clarke County Library, located at 2025 Baxter St., Athens, GA 30606. Organizers stress that everyone is welcome to attend, and coffee will be supplied on a first-come, first-served basis "while it lasts." Those interested in participating are encouraged to register.

For any further inquiries or for more details about the session, Kelley McLean, Program Manager for the Lead Hazard Reduction Capacity Building Program, can be reached at 762-400-8343. The Athens-Clarke County Government also provides resources and information on lead safety which is accessible at accgov.com/leadhazard. As part of their outreach, McLean emphasized the importance of community engagement, stating, "We hope you’ll join us for this informative and engaging conversation."
