A 7-year-old girl is in serious condition after sustaining burns in an incident believed to involve fireworks at a home on Nana Place in Kāneʻohe last night. Paramedics responded to the scene, provided treatment, and transported her to a hospital for further care, while neighbors observed the emergency response.
Paramedics treated burns on the girl’s arms and legs and confirmed she was transported to the hospital in serious condition. At the time of the report, Honolulu police and fire officials had not released additional details.
Emergency crews on scene
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services told Hawaii News Now that crews were dispatched to the Kāneʻohe home around 10:35 p.m. They treated the child at the scene before transporting her to the hospital in serious condition. The outlet also reported that EMS responded to several other suspected fireworks-related injuries across Oʻahu that night, making it a busy evening for first responders.
A dangerous pattern on Oʻahu
The Kāneʻohe incident comes amid heightened concern over aerial and illegal fireworks following last year’s Aliamanu explosion, which resulted in multiple deaths and dozens of injuries, according to Honolulu Civil Beat. The previous disaster prompted calls for stronger enforcement and additional resources for burn care and fireworks investigations.
Officials urge caution
Fire officials have warned that aerial fireworks can cause serious burns and shrapnel injuries, particularly to children, and have advised residents to leave fireworks to licensed professionals, as per Hawaii News Now. Police have not reported any arrests in the Kāneʻohe incident and said additional information will be released as the investigation continues.
