According to a news release issued by the City of Kannapolis, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will be activated on Saturday morning, January 24, to coordinate a comprehensive response to the incoming storm. City staff across departments are expected to collaborate closely with county, state, and utility officials in anticipation of a storm that's forecasted to be significant enough to require weeks of recovery efforts.
The EOC will act as the central hub for operations, providing a direct link between the city, Rowan and Cabarrus County officials, and other agencies. "The EOC will serve as the central coordination hub for all city departments and will facilitate direct communication and collaboration with Rowan and Cabarrus County officials, state emergency management agencies, and utility partners," stated the city of Kannapolis announcement. In preparation, residents are advised to make necessary provisions ahead of what might become a perilous weather event, with the potential for extensive ice accumulation, strong winds, and prolonged power outages.
City officials have already begun proactively postponing or cancelling various city activities and meetings in light of the anticipated storm conditions. Among these, the Kannapolis City Council's meeting scheduled for January 26 has been cancelled, moving agenda items to the Council’s February 9 meeting, set for 4:30 p.m. Furthermore, all City Athletic Basketball Programs have been called off for the approaching weekend, and the Swanee Theatre Line Dancing Program slated for Monday, January 26, will not take place.
