Time is ticking for Kaufman County residents who've yet to settle their 2025 property taxes. As per the county’s official reminder, payments need to be made by January 31 to avoid a steep 7% hit in penalties and interest. Those words of caution come directly from Teressa Floyd, the Kaufman County Tax Assessor/Collector, who has alerted, "Please don't miss this important deadline as it can be costly."
For residents preferring to mail their payments, the Tax Office advises careful attention to the postmark. Given USPS's recent changes, it’s easy to inadvertently rack up additional charges. Floyd urges payers to secure a timely postmark by either getting a manual one at the post office or opting for registered or certified mail, promising a reliable date stamp along with a mail receipt and tracking capability.
But those inclined to avoid the post office's potential pitfalls and the queue altogether have the option to pay online. Kaufman County's eCheck facility promises to quickly handle taxes with no extra charge, whereas credit or debit card payments incur a processing fee. Transactions can be done on Kaufman’s website or, for those who'd rather listen and tap, over the phone at 1-877-253-0150.
