In the familial corridors of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office (JSO), the adage "like father, like son" holds more weight than at most workplaces. In a recent social media post, JSO celebrated the familial ties within its ranks, placing a spotlight on the overlapping careers of Detective Travis Oliver Sr. and his son, Officer Travis Oliver Jr. According to JSO's Facebook post, the Olivers represent one of several father-son duos that reinforce the notion of public service as a family calling.
With a tenure stretching over two and a half decades, Detective Oliver Sr. has dedicated the majority of his career to JSO, now working within the Cold Case Unit. His son, following closely in his footsteps, became the freshest face on patrol in District 6 after graduating from the police academy in October. JSO proudly boasts, "When we say our JSO family, we mean it," highlighting a tradition that sees the torch of civil duty passed down and carried forth through generations.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office highlighted the service of a father-son duo as part of its ongoing recognition of family legacies within the department. The office emphasized that these legacies contribute to its institutional identity. In a statement on their public platform, JSO said, "We're proud to see the legacy of public service continue throughout generations here at the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office."
