Kannapolis has a new Assistant City Manager at the helm of its Finance, Budget, Human Resources, and Customer Service Departments. As reported by Kannapolisnc.gov, Kristin Jones, formerly the Budget and Strategy Director for the city, has ascended to the role, strengthening the city's administration with her extensive background in budgeting and strategy.
“Her experience in budgeting offers a strong foundation in aligning fiscal responsibility with the City’s long-range strategic and operational goals,” said City Manager Wilmer Melton, as reported by Kannapolisnc.gov. Jones has been with Kannapolis since 2020 and previously worked as the Budget and Performance Manager for Cabarrus County. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and a master’s in public administration from Appalachian State University, with a minor in business.
Jones is a certified budget officer through the North Carolina Local Government Budget Office and has completed the Municipal and County Administration course at the UNC School of Government, the Leadership Cabarrus program, and the Professional Development Academy leadership course. These credentials strengthen her expertise for her new role in Kannapolis.
Jones is active in her community, serving on the West Cabarrus YMCA Board of Directors and the Rowan Cabarrus YMCA Finance Committee. She is also a member of several local government associations, including the ASU Local Government Alumni Chapter, NCCMA, NCGFOA, and NCLGBA.
Jones is married to Evan, and they have one daughter, Avett.
