A substitute teacher in Lake Alfred, Florida, was arrested for DUI on school grounds this past Tuesday, authorities reported. Micah Alan Dyal, 44, from Haines City, was taken into custody around 10:29 am at Lake Alfred Polytech, where a school resource officer noticed an individual attempting to leave his parking space and identified signs of impairment.

An administered field sobriety test, which was reported by the Polk County Sheriff's Office, evidenced that Dyal demonstrated multiple signs of being under the influence, including the presence of a strong alcohol odor. Dyal was then transported to the Sheriff’s Processing Center and charged with DUI. He consented to safely provide a blood sample, which will be analyzed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to determine his blood-alcohol content or the presence of drugs.

According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff Grady Judd addressed the incident with a colorful remark comparing the substitute teacher’s intoxication to Cooter Brown, noting that he was taken to jail.

Polk County Public Schools praised staff for quickly noticing the issue and preventing Dyal from entering the classroom. A spokesperson described the behavior as a terrible and unacceptable decision, adding that the individual will no longer have any involvement with PCPS.
