Lake Havasu City is rolling out its second Havasu Residents Academy this spring, opening up the lines for citizens who wish to gain a closer look into the machinery of their municipal government. The academy commences on March 5 and is slated to run through April 23, with weekly Thursday evening sessions scheduled from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., according to a recent announcement by the Lake Havasu City.

Offering a transparent lens into the workings of local governance, the program is an embodiment of the City’s pledge to foster civic understanding and community involvement. The sessions witnessed by rotating through various City facilities allow participants to engage with city officials and get an intimate understanding of city operations. Having launched the inaugural session last year, the initiative aims to bring residents into the heart of their local systems, with dinner thrown in weekly to ease attendance for those juggling work schedules.

Community Engagement Officer Jerri Bracamonte has underscored the success of the academy's first installment, stating, “The success of our first Havasu Residents Academy confirmed our residents are eager to learn, engage, and be part of shaping the future of our community,” upon the program’s continuation, as Lake Havasu City’s website reported. This educational endeavor has evidently struck a chord with locals, creating a cadre of informed and involved citizens.

From governance and public law to emergency response and infrastructure, the academy’s curriculum spans a wide array of areas critical to municipal operations. Graduates of the program not only come away with enriched knowledge but also with strengthened links to those steering the City’s daily functions. The academy caps off with a celebration, commencing with a graduation where City leaders are in attendance, as part of its commitment to community connectedness.

Interested Lake Havasu City residents who are 18 or older and living within the city limits can vie for a spot in the academy, with only 25 seats available. Applications were opened yesterday, and submissions are being taken online, with selections to be notified by mid-February, and the first session is ready to kick off on March 5.
