LAPD in Hot Pursuit of Six Suspected International Theft Ring Members Linked to High-Value Heists in US, UK, and Canada

Los Angeles police are in pursuit of six individuals linked to a transnational theft ring, believed to be responsible for high-value thefts of jewelry, watches, and clothing across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada since 2016. On Thursday, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) announced the results of a collaborative month-long investigation that already led to two arrests. According to NBC Los Angeles, the group was involved in a theft on December 16 in Los Angeles.

Detectives from various local police departments and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey embarked on a coordinated multi-agency operation, as detailed in a news release. In a scene that recalls a cinematic cross-country caper, numerous fraudulent identification documents were discovered during a search warrant service. The LAPD has since asked for public assistance in identifying further victims of the crime ring. KTLA reported that the service of these warrants led to the discovery of the stolen goods and fraudulent passports.

Information about this crime wave emerged on December 17, following a news segment that aired leads for the investigation. "Several members of a transnational organized crime group were identified as a result of the investigation," states the LAPD News Release. The effort included detectives from LAPD's Rampart and Wilshire Divisions, collaborating with police from Glendale, Arcadia, and Pasadena.

Investigators have reached out to jewelry stores and retail businesses, encouraging them to come forward if they recognize any of the recovered property. Rampart Division Detective Jose Hidalgo has been assigned the lead; his phone line is open for tips, as the recovery of these stolen treasures offers a glimpse into the depth of the group's operations. The LAPD has provided photos of the six remaining suspects, as they hope to bring closure to a saga that has seen precious heirlooms whisked from their rightful places, according to NBC Los Angeles.
