The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reported the results of their annual Holiday Initiative, which increased officer presence in busy shopping areas from Thanksgiving through the end of the season. During this period, officers handled 2,461 calls for service, made 345 arrests, and issued 2,379 citations, as reported by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
LVMPD noted that the visible patrols likely prevented additional crimes and provided reassurance to the community. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said community reporting of suspicious activity is an important part of maintaining public safety.
According to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on their Facebook page, LVMPD reminded residents of year-round safety tips, including securing personal belongings, not leaving shopping bags visible in vehicles, trusting instincts about suspicious behavior, and following the “if you see something, say something” guideline. They also said, "Thank you to everyone who stayed alert, reported suspicious activity, and partnered with us to keep our community safe." The department reported a reduction in crime during the holiday period, noting the results of their Holiday Initiative and cooperation with the public.
