In a move celebrating cultural connections and anticipating one of the world’s most-watched sports events, Mayor Karen Bass has declared LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes as the designated Hospitality House for Mexico, named Casa México, during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The historic El Pueblo de Los Angeles neighborhood, known as the city's birthplace, is slated to become the heartbeat of festivities, melding soccer passion with cultural heritage and Mexican traditions.

"Los Angeles is a city defined by its connection, culture, and community," Mayor Bass stated in an announcement, emphasizing that Casa México will be a catalyst for community engagement and celebration. Despite of the bustling global sporting stage, the initiative aims to enhance local unity and economic vitality, spotlighting the Mexican-American population's impact in L.A.

The spirit of El Pueblo as a hub for immigrant communities and a witness to varied historical moments was echoed by Councilmember Ysabel Jurado, who highlighted the importance of the space for shared cultures and community upliftment. "Hosting Casa México at LA Plaza honors that legacy by celebrating our shared cultures, creating space for community, and ensuring this global moment supports the families, workers, and small businesses that call El Pueblo home," she told the office of the Mayor of the City of Los Angeles.

Casa México's aim to generate not just immediate cultural excitement but also long-lasting social impact was underscored by Carlos González Gutiérrez, Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles. "It is a nonprofit initiative designed to generate cultural, community, and social impact, and to leave a positive legacy beyond the World Cup," he asserted, aligning the festivities with broader goals of legacy and inclusion.

Telemundo 52 will play a key role as the event’s official media partner, ensuring that both locals and visitors will be subject to a comprehensive experience of the World Cup through their exclusive Spanish-language coverage and local events. “Telemundo 52 is proud to support this important initiative and to bring Angelenos and visitors closer to the excitement of the FIFA World Cup through exclusive coverage and local activations that reflect the spirit of our region and communities," said Todd Mokhtari, President and General Manager of Telemundo 52 and NBC4.

Open to the public from June 11 to July 19, 2026, Casa México at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes will showcase free programming, including live match broadcasts, music, art, and a display of Mexican states' cultural and tourist offerings. In a period where the world's gaze turns to the spectacle of soccer, this initiative presents a unique opportunity for cultural exchange and collective celebration right in the heart of Los Angeles.
