A lunchtime stop at a Pearland Buc‑ee’s turned into a nightmare this week when, according to police, a registered sex offender walked up to a woman’s car, exposed himself and began touching himself just feet from her door.
Pearland police identified the suspect as Damond Linsey and say the Brazoria County District Attorney has accepted enhanced charges based on two prior indecent exposure convictions. Detectives say they are still digging into other reports in the area to see whether they involve the same vehicle.
Officers were called around 12:15 p.m. on Jan. 2 to the Buc‑ee’s on Shadow Creek Parkway after a woman reported she was eating lunch inside her car when a blue SUV backed into the spot next to her, a man stepped out, stared at her and then exposed himself, according to FOX 26 Houston. The victim gave police a description of the man, the SUV and its license plate, and later turned over dash‑cam video of the encounter. Investigators say that footage helped them zero in on the suspect and his vehicle.
On Jan. 6, the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office contacted Pearland detectives about several indecent exposure reports tied to the same SUV and plate number, and investigators concluded the incidents were likely related, KPRC Click2Houston reported. After reviewing the evidence, the Brazoria County District Attorney’s Office signed off on charges, and Pearland officers arrested Linsey on Jan. 8 on an indecent exposure count that cites two prior convictions. Police say the case is still active as detectives chase down tips and additional reports.
Repeat Exposure Charges Can Jump To Felony
Under Texas law, a first indecent exposure case is typically a Class B misdemeanor. Penalties climb with repeat offenses. A second conviction becomes a Class A misdemeanor, and two or more prior convictions can bump a new charge up to a state‑jail felony, according to Texas Penal Code Sec. 21.08. Prosecutors allege Linsey has two prior convictions, so they filed the enhanced felony charge. That step up means a conviction could bring significantly tougher punishment than a standard misdemeanor case.
Police Want Dash‑Cam And Doorbell Video
Pearland police are asking anyone who thinks they may have been a victim, or who has dash‑cam, doorbell or other surveillance footage from early January, to contact the Criminal Investigations Tip Line at 281‑997‑4211, the department told FOX 26 Houston. Detectives are also working with Brazoria County investigators to decide whether additional reports in the county should be linked to the same SUV. Police have not released further details about Linsey’s prior convictions beyond what is listed in the charging documents.
