A man was rescued from being trapped in a sewer for several days in Northwest Houston, as reported by Click2Houston. Deputies from the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office responded to a welfare check after reports came through of a man screaming for help in the 16400 block of N. Mist Drive.
The individual, whose age has not been disclosed, was reported to have been stuck in the sewer system near Turkey Creek for an extended period. It appears the man spent several days below the surface, although, it is still not clear how long he was actually there for, nor the circumstances that led him to become entrapped within the city's underbelly.
Rescue efforts were a collaboration between local law enforcement and the Ponderosa Fire Department. Once extracted from the sewer, the man was transported to a local hospital to receive medical attention; first responders had already assessed his condition on the scene. Fox26Houston notes that details of his current medical condition have yet to be released.
As for now, investigations are ongoing. The Harris County authorities have not provided information on whether the incident was accidental or if other factors may have contributed to the man's plight, meanwhile the Constable’s Office continues to look into how the man ended up in the sewer, said by authorities to be looking into every possibility, as concerns linger about the safety and accessibility of the city's subterranean spaces.
