In Gwinnett County, a 36-year-old man was arrested after attempting to arrange a meeting with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl. The Gwinnett County Police VICE Unit conducted an undercover operation as part of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) program and apprehended Jonathan Dismang, from McDonough, during his attempt to make contact with a minor.
The investigation began on January 5 when Dismang unknowingly engaged with an undercover agent online, believing the agent to be a young girl. As part of the operation, Dismang is reported to have sent explicit images to who he thought was a teenager and made plans to meet up at a designated location in Norcross. Officials stated that Dismang traveled from McDonough with intentions that were, to say the least, unsettling and unlawful.
Upon arrival at the predetermined place for the encounter, law enforcement officials took Dismang into custody. He faces multiple charges including the use of a computer service to solicit a child to commit illegal acts, criminal attempt to commit a felony, and obscene Internet contact with a child. According to details released by the Gwinnett County official news release, after his arrest, Dismang was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
This arrest adds another count to the ongoing narrative of child endangerment via digital platforms, highlighting the need for constant vigilance in the online arena where predators too often seek quickly to exploit the vulnerable. Gwinnett County's efforts to police such entities and protect potential victims continue to be an essential part of combating these criminal activities. Information regarding Dismang's arraignment or legal representation has not yet been made public.
