A McKinney man has been charged with the murder of his parents, one of whom was a former city manager, and is now facing multiple charges after being released from the hospital into Collin County jail, as per jail records. Bryce Ragan, 34, had been hospitalized following an encounter with police, where he was shot multiple times after his parents were found dead in their home.
The deceased, identified as Leonard Ragan, 73, and Jackie Ragan, 72, were discovered on December 28, 2025, after a welfare check initiated by concerned family members. The check was conducted around 9:56 a.m. at the residence in the 5300 block of Dunster Drive, according to a police statement obtained by The Dallas Morning News. Leonard Ragan notably served as McKinney's city manager from March 2008 to June 2010, confirmed in a statement by current City Manager Paul Grimes.
Bryce Ragan now faces charges of capital murder of multiple persons and three counts of aggravated assault against a public servant, details confirmed by WFAA. After the police arrived at the scene, they found Ragan inside a bedroom with a gun and, failing to comply with officers' commands to put down the weapon, was subsequently shot before being taken to the hospital in stable condition.
No police officers were harmed during the incident, with authorities having not disclosed any information on whether the two officers involved would be placed on administrative duty pending an investigation. The officers, struck by the gravity of the confrontation inside the bedroom, discharged their weapons at Ragan, previously reported by authorities.
