Residents of Mecklenburg County have the opportunity to shape the 2026-2027 fiscal budget by participating in a public hearing set for this month. According to a Mecklenburg County Government recent announcement, the hearing will offer locals a chance to voice their opinions on which programs and services they deem crucial.
The public hearing is Jan. 21 at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center on East Fourth Street. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the hearing begins at 6:30 p.m. Attendees may register online or in person.
Participants have three minutes to speak to the Board of County Commissioners. Written comments may be emailed to [email protected] or mailed to the clerk’s office and are due by Jan. 20 at 5 p.m.
After the hearing, the Commissioners will hold their annual budget retreat on Jan. 27, 28, and 30. The process continues with the County Manager’s budget recommendation on May 14, a second hearing on May 21, and final adoption on June 2. These steps ensure community input shapes the budget.
All budget meetings will be streamed live on Meck TV. Updates and details are available at Budget.MeckNC.gov.
