
Early Wednesday morning, the Memphis Fire Department responded to a blaze in the Castalia Heights neighborhood, where a fuel tank near Lamar Avenue and Airways Boulevard had caught fire due to a small leak, as reported by Action News 5. The tank, located alongside the train tracks, was pressurized, but the content was deemed non-hazardous by the MFD.
Despite the potentially alarming visuals, the incident did not result in any injuries and the fire was quickly managed and extinguished, MFD crews arrived on the scene at approximately 4 a.m. and swiftly brought the situation under control, ensuring that there were no further risks to public safety and the MFD emphasized that the material engulfed in flames posed no hazard, with no one hurt in the incident, this is according to a statement obtained by WREG.
The specific location of the incident was off Deadrick Avenue near the aforementioned cross-section, which was closed off during the MFD's response to ensure a secure environment for the emergency crews. The Memphis Fire Department, maintaining a veil of safety, assured the community that despite the early morning scare, the situation was contained without incident.
"This pressurized tank had a small leak which caught some of the contents on fire," MFD said in a report, according to FOX13 Memphis. The fire, which could have escalated into a larger disaster, was instead a testament to the swiftness and efficiency of the MFD, ensuring the situation did not evolve into a crisis with their prompt action. All necessary measures were taken to prevent any potential contamination or spread of fire to adjacent areas, and the department reiterated that there were no casualties.
