Michigan State Police are actively seeking a driver involved in an I-75 shooting incident in Detroit on New Year's Eve. ClickOnDetroit reports that the event took place near Grand River at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
Upon their arrival, troopers discovered a vehicle that had sustained gunshot damage, with two bullet holes punctuating the rear driver's side door. The shooting suspect is apparently believed to have been behind the wheel of a dark-colored Dodge SUV. Authorities were forced to shut down the freeway temporarily as they commenced to collecting evidence and canvassing the scene.
The driver of the shot vehicle recounted to officers that the attack occurred as he was traveling southbound on I-75. According to a statement obtained by The Detroit News, First Lt. Mike Shaw of the Michigan State Police emphasized, "This investigation is ongoing. Currently, troopers are gathering evidence, trying to find a motive for the shooting, and reviewing video in the area."
The freeway shooting appears to add to a string of similar violent incidents in the Metro Detroit area. Last month, another motorist suffered a shooting on Interstate 96, and in October, I-696 witnessed a gunfire incident with no casualties reported, according to FOX2Detroit.
