A home invasion in Newark's Norwegian Woods neighborhood was thwarted, resulting in the arrest of 26-year-old Da’Aron Griffin of Middletown, as reported by the New Castle County Police via social media. The incident, which took place on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, began with a confrontation between Griffin and a 30-year-old male victim and escalated into a physical altercation outside the residence on Winding Road.
According to the police's social media post, after the victim retreated into the home, Griffin continued his assault by damaging a vehicle and entering the residence while armed with knives. Griffin then attempted to break into a bedroom, causing a 65-year-old male to sustain a laceration to his head in the struggle to keep the door sealed. At the arrival of the authorities, both Griffin and the initial victim were detained.
The aftermath of the invasion saw Griffin being charged with a range of offenses, including two felonies for Aggravated Menacing and one felony each for Possession of a Deadly Weapon During a Felony, Burglary in the First Degree, and Assault Second Degree not to mention misdemeanor charges for Theft Under $1,500, Criminal Mischief over $1,000, Resisting Arrest, Offensive Touching, and Criminal Mischief under $1,000. Following his arraignment, Griffin was unable to post the $145,000.00 cash bail and remains in custody at the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.
While the altercation and subsequent home invasion alarmed the community, the quick response by New Castle County Officers prevented the situation from escalating further. The evidence collected at the scene included Griffin's shoe found inside the residence, and his vehicle parked on the nearby street provided further support for the charges levied against him. The police have not disclosed any additional information regarding the motive for the confrontation or whether the two individuals knew each other before the incident.
