The Midlothian Cemetery Association has postponed its annual cleanup day, originally set for January 31, due to unforeseen circumstances. The new date is now slated for February 7, and the event will commence at 9 a.m. This community effort, announced by the City of Midlothian via a social media post, invites residents to come together in maintaining the historical resting grounds located at 224 S. 11th Street, with an entry driveway off 9th Street.
City officials urge volunteers to come equipped with work gloves, while cleanup supplies will be generously provided at the site. The rescheduling update noted that the event offers a prime opportunity for MISD high school students looking to earn service hours within their community.
Volunteering for the cemetery cleanup can bear fruit beyond simply meeting the requisite service hours. It stands as a chance to connect with Midlothian's history and partake in a collective act of stewardship, preserving both beauty and memory in spaces where the echoes of past lives ask not to be swallowed by the overgrowth of time and neglect.
