What started as a quiet early-morning stretch in North Sacramento turned deadly yesterday, when a man was fatally shot on Eleanor Avenue, according to police. Responding officers found the wounded man after reports of gunfire, and he later died at a nearby hospital.
Officers were called just after 12:30 a.m. to the 900 block of Eleanor Avenue, where they found an adult man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Medics rushed him to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to FOX40.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators combed the area, gathering evidence and talking to anyone who might have seen or heard something as they worked to piece together what led up to the shooting. The Sacramento Police Department is asking anyone with information to call the dispatch center at (916) 808-5471 or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers at (916) 443-HELP (4357), or to submit an anonymous tip using the P3 Tips app, according to KCRA.
Investigation and Neighborhood Context
This latest killing adds to a grim tally of recent gun violence in North Sacramento neighborhoods. Several shootings have rattled the area in January alone, including a double shooting on Evergreen Street earlier this month that left one person dead and another critically injured, according to CBS13. Residents and community advocates say the string of cases has people on edge and demanding answers about safety on the north side.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s name once his family has been notified. Police say they have no suspect information to share at this time. For initial reporting on the case see FOX40.
How to Help the Investigation
Detectives are still canvassing the 900 block of Eleanor Avenue, looking for surveillance footage and additional witness accounts. Investigators are urging anyone who saw or heard anything, no matter how small it might seem, to contact Sacramento Police dispatch or Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers. The case remains active, and authorities are asking the public to share concrete tips and let investigators do the sorting while they follow up on leads.
