Two people were wounded just after midnight Thursday in a drive-by shooting at the intersection of 29th Street Northeast and Norpoint Way Northeast in Tacoma, according to police. Officers arrived to find the pair inside a vehicle and had them taken to a hospital, where their injuries were described as not life-threatening.

Witnesses told officers that a second vehicle pulled alongside the victims' car, its occupants opened fire, and then sped away. As of Thursday night, detectives were still working the case and no arrests had been reported.

What police say

According to The News Tribune, Tacoma Police Department spokeswoman Shelbie Boyd said officers were dispatched at about 12:05 a.m. to the intersection after reports of gunfire.

Forensics crews processed the intersection, and investigators said they are reviewing video and other evidence as they try to figure out whether the shooting was random or targeted, the paper reported. The victims' ages and genders have not been released.

How investigators are handling it

The Tacoma Police Department's media office, led by public information officer Shelbie Boyd, confirmed that a detective has been assigned to the case and that officers have been canvassing the area for surveillance footage and additional witnesses.

The department's services page lists a nonemergency tip line at (253) 287-4455 for people who may have information. Police say they will continue to follow leads and comb both physical and digital evidence to identify the suspect vehicle and those inside it.
