The Milwaukee Police Department has issued a warning about a rise in robberies linked to dating apps, particularly affecting LGBTQ+ individuals. According to the Milwaukee Police Department's Post, Investigators report that suspects have used the Grindr app to carry out so-called "Bait and Switch Robberies," luring victims to meetings and robbing them upon arrival.
These incidents have increased over the past two months. In response, the MPD’s Public Information Office and LGBTQ+ Engagement Team have launched a website with safety tips for online dating, offering guidance on avoiding risky situations.
Residents are urged to stay vigilant when meeting strangers from dating apps. The MPD recommends meeting in public places, sharing plans with friends or family, and watching for potential red flags.
The department continues to investigate these crimes and encourages anyone with information or similar experiences to report them to help prevent further incidents and protect the community.
