The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has named Megan Moore as the Team Member of the Month for January 2026, recognizing her invaluable contributions, particularly within the Abandoned Mine Land Program. Moore, an environmental analyst with the Missouri Geological Survey, has demonstrated a unique commitment to managing Missouri's abandoned mine lands, providing both technical support to landowners and leading significant project milestones.
In her role, Moore has been adept at conducting quality site investigations and analyzing data to inform land management strategies. Her work revolves around mitigating the threats posed by abandoned mine land features to public health and safety, an issue that also intersects with environmental concerns. Her recent achievements include advancing a long-standing project targeting hazardous abandoned mine lands that have been a concern since the early 2000s. Moore is known not only for her professional acumen, but also for her respectful, and courteous behavior when interacting with various stakeholders, and partners.
Moore's efforts have earned her high praise from colleagues, including her environmental supervisor Austin Rehagen. In a statement obtained by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Rehagen lauded Moore's dedication, remarking, "Megan's level of care, passion and personal engagement when dealing with project designs, on-site construction, technical assistance, emergency projects and landowner correspondence are the main reasons she is so deserving of this award." Rehagen's sentiment is echoed throughout the department, reflecting a consensus on Moore's value to the team.
Moore has been with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources since May 2020 and currently resides in Jefferson City.
