Dustin Tibbetts, a 33-year-old man from Modesto, was found guilty by a jury of felony assault, terrorist threats, and felony domestic violence causing great bodily injury after years of abuse against his partner. The victim experienced repeated attacks, including one while five months pregnant, and suffered serious injuries in front of their infant child, as reported by the Stanislaus County District Attorney.
The case showed the long-term and controlling nature of the abuse, which made the victim feel trapped despite multiple attempts to leave. Tibbetts could face up to 9 years and 8 months in prison, as stated by the Stanislaus County District Attorney.
A victim in Stanislaus County escaped abuse with help from the Family Justice Center and the District Attorney’s Victim Service Unit, according to the Stanislaus County District Attorney on their Facebook page.
