As we approach another year of commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy, Montgomery County has officially released its transportation schedule for the upcoming holiday. If you're planning to get around the county on Monday, Jan. 19, it's important to note the changes in service. County offices will not be operational, pausing to honor the civil rights leader's contributions to our nation's march towards equality, according to Montgomery County.
Ride On services, including extRa 101, extRa Lime, extRa Pink, and Flex, will all operate on a tailored Holiday schedule. Commuters who rely on the Ride On Flash bus service should plan accordingly, as the Orange line will run on a Weekend/Holiday timetable, whilst the Blue line will not be in service. The TRiPS Commuter Store located at Silver Spring Transit Center will welcome visitors, but only within the limited hours of 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and their Mobile Commuter Store will remain closed for the day.
For those utilizing public parking, it's good news: parking at Bethesda, Silver Spring, and Wheaton public garages, lots, and curbside meters will be free of charge. As for the rail services, Metrorail will operate on a Weekend schedule, starting early from 5 a.m. through to midnight. Furthermore, Metrobus will run a Saturday Plus Supplemental schedule, which aims to adequately meet the holiday demands without the weekday rush. MARC Train commuters aren't left out, with the service operating on an R schedule across all three lines.
