Montgomery County is gearing up for an event steeped in legacy and unity, as it prepares to host its 31st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Observance and Birthday Celebration, an event themed "Every Kind of People... a Blueprint For Unity" aims to uplift the very ethos that Dr. King championed throughout his life—dignity, self-worth, determination, justice, beauty, unity, and commitment, according to a recent announcement by the county officials.

On Sunday, Jan. 18, residents are invited to gather at The Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda starting at 4 p.m. to commemorate the civil rights leader's enduring impact through an array of performances by artists across different genres, attendees will experience the musical stylings of Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer, Daryl Davis, and Brian Lenair among others, this celebration also boasts dance performances from the Akhmedova Ballet to the Gaithersburg High School Latin Dance Team, Sabor Latino, who, after securing a second-place victory in the MCPS 2025 Latin Dance Competition, are primed to grace the stage, as per the Montgomery County Government.

Highlighting the artistic achievements of the area's youth, the event will feature not only Donovan Holt-Harrington, an ACT-SO National Gold Medalist, but also Craig Martin, a local ACT-SO Gold Medalist, and Celeah Clark, the 2025 Golden Classical Music Awards International Winner; such inclusion of emerging talents showcases a generation who interprets King's message through the universal language of the arts.
