As the festive din settles into the stark silence of another year wrapped, Montgomery County’s Holiday Alcohol Task Force tallied its efforts to keep the streets safe from impaired drivers. In the span from December 31, 2025, to January 3, 2026, a flurry of traffic stops resulted in notable enforcement actions. According to the official press release, officers pulled over 307 vehicles and handed out 366 traffic citations alongside 408 warnings, and 29 repair orders.
But the primary motive for this seasonal crackdown was clear: inhibiting the dangerous cocktail of holiday cheer and driving. The task force didn't just hand out tickets, they were also on the lookout for drivers under the influence. Officials document that among their stops there were two alcohol restriction violations, and a civil alcohol citation was issued. Breath tests—a frontline metric in the battle against DUI—were performed six times.
The sobering reality of the season's merriment is the count of those apprehended for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Task force officers arrested 28 individuals for DUI offenses during this period. Yet, while these numbers paint a picture of the task force's vigilance, they form only part of the portrait; these stats don't include the additional DUI busts made by regular patrol officers engaged in their daily responsibilities.
