Police say a black 2000 Chevy Silverado hit a pedestrian in the far-left lane just before exit 1 in the Southeast area around 7:52 p.m. Seventh District officers responded, and DC Fire and EMS attempted lifesaving measures, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 60-year-old William Gardner, who had no fixed address. The driver of the Chevy Silverado remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
