The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) has unveiled the Nevada Wildlife Connectivity Plan, a pivotal strategy intended to facilitate the safe movement of wildlife across the state. A significant step in protecting local ecosystems and biodiversity, the plan targets identifying barriers, bolstering habitat connections, and streamlining conservation endeavors.

A coalition of state, governmental agencies, and non-governmental partners are spearheading this comprehensive initiative. According to NDOW's official social media post, the plan is designed as a "flexible, long-term roadmap" to safeguard wildlife and ecosystems. In parallel, the NDOW has launched the Nevada Wildlife Connectivity Hub, an online repository featuring maps, databases and a wealth of resources to assist various stakeholders and provide essential information such as the migration patterns of ungulates in Nevada.

In conjunction with this, NDOW's Connectivity Planning and Development team has collaborated with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), and other key stakeholders to create a web portal. This portal functions as a centralized information hub on migration corridors, habitat conditions, and transportation concerns that overlap with wildlife safety. The driving force behind this project was to compile critical data in a single, accessible platform for stakeholders, including NGOs, local governments, and the public.

Reflecting on the partnership, the collaborative effort aims to showcase, through a user-friendly interface, detailed maps that delineate big game migration routes and wildlife safety crossings. Furthermore, the web portal also provides a historical overview of past wildlife habitat enhancements and conservation easements, a move to augment and refine connectivity for Nevada's wildlife.
